I AM who He says I AM

A few Saturdays ago, I went to the Inspire Women’s Retreat. It has taken sometime for me to wrap my head around all that happened that day and be able to put it into words to share with you.

We were in the cutest home tucked away in Wimberley, Texas, and it was an entire day devoted to the Lord. I was very expectant for what God would do. I didn’t know what to expect but I just knew big things were going to be revealed at the retreat. When we arrived, the atmosphere was so relaxing and inviting. The word that I keep telling people is “Cozy”. I felt at home in this space with 40 other women, most of whom I didn’t know. We were from different churches, different ages, stages in life but all centered around one thing- Jesus. His heart for us. His desire to be near to us and our desire to be near to Him.Fearless-InspireThe word INSPIRE means: to breathe in.

All day I felt like there was new air “to breathe in”. The day was full of life and a freedom like nothing I have ever been part of before. During the very first session, this African proverb was referenced: The daughter of a lion is also a lion. I have been thinking about that ever since she said it. What could that mean? If my Heavenly Father is joy, then I am joy. If my Heavenly father is brave, then I am brave. We had some time of prayer and listening to the Father. As I listen, I heard Him whisper three words to me.

Towards the end of the evening, in this incredibly sweet moment of worship and reflection we sang this song:

I am chosen
Not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me
Not against me
I am who You say I am

This song of declaration is just that. It is declaring who God says you are. Not how you are feeling but who you are. Our feelings come and go. From experience, I can wake up with the best intentions of “being happy” or “keeping my cool” but 5 minutes in and I’m already done. Since the retreat, I have made a decision to be focused on who I am and not who I feel like. This simple act of declaring (OUTLOUD) is so powerful! It changes my mindset, my attitude, my responses, and mostly my heart. These lyrics were so powerful I have been singing them often. It is most helpful whenever I come to place where I don’t feel what I know to be true. I have even added some lines of my own with the a few words God gave me that day:

I am who You say I am
I am Fierce
I am who You say I am

I want to encourage you today to know that you are who He says you are! Romans 5:2 From the Mirror Bible says: “Jesus is God’s grace embrace of the entire human race. So here we are, standing tall in the joyful bliss of our redeemed innocence! We are God’s dream come true. This was God’s idea all along!”

THIS! This is you! Beautiful one, this is how he sees you and me! Redeemed, Innocent, and full of Joy! When we stop trying to “be ______” (you fill the blank), in our own strength, we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal more of who God says we are.

That day God didn’t tell me exactly what was coming in my future or even what the next steps are to get there. But He affirmed that the desires in my heart are from Him and that I have everything I need to accomplish those things. I can trust Him in the process because He trusts me.

With Love,
